Buggana Criticizes Andhra Government for Increasing Debt

VIJAYAWADA: Former minister Buggana Rajendranath criticized the Andhra Pradesh government for its handling of the state's finances, noting that frustration usually felt after five years of governance is now apparent just months into the current administration. He condemned the government for failing to present a budget even after three months in office.
At a press conference in Hyderabad on Monday, Buggana mocked the 'Super Six' guarantees, claiming that promised financial assistance of ₹15,000 and ₹18,000 has yet to be delivered. He pointed out that citizens are increasingly disillusioned by unfulfilled promises.
Buggana expressed concern about the rising debt under the current government, citing recent borrowings: ₹2,000 crore on June 11, ₹5,000 crore on July 2, ₹2,000 crore on July 16, ₹3,000 crore on July 30, ₹3,000 crore on August 27, and ₹4,000 crore on September 3, 2024.
He noted that while the previous YSRC government faced heavy criticism for its borrowing, the current administration's debt accumulation has not been scrutinized similarly. Buggana accused the current narrative of focusing on promoting Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and attributing any state progress to him, while neglecting the financial mismanagement of the present government.
Regarding the Polavaram project, Buggana claimed that the TDP has wrongly taken credit for the project's progress. He asserted that the YSRC secured ₹12,911 crore in funds for the project between 2019 and 2024, and blamed delays on mismanagement by the TDP government from 2014 to 2019, despite the project being initiated under YS Rajasekhara Reddy in 2005.
