In Vijayawada, a case has been registered against former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with two senior IPS officers and two other officials, based on allegations of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, and criminal intimidation. The complaint was filed by former YSRC MP K Raghurama Krishnam Raju.
Nagarapalem Police filed the case under IPC Sections 120B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465, and 506, naming Sunil Kumar as accused no. 1, Sitaramanjaneyulu as accused no. 2, and Jagan as accused no. 3. The FIR also includes former additional SP of CID R Vijaya Paul and former superintendent of Guntur Government General Hospital G Prabhavati as accused.
Raghurama Krishnam Raju, who is now a TDP MLA, alleged in his complaint that he was subjected to custodial torture on Jagan's orders in 2021. He claimed he was arrested in Hyderabad and taken to the CB-CID office in Guntur district without a Prisoner Transit warrant. Raju accused police officers of assaulting him with a rubber belt and lathi at the CID office, neglecting his medical needs despite recent heart surgery, and attempting to kill him by sitting on his chest.
He further alleged that false medical certificates were submitted by Dr. Prabhavati from Guntur GGH at the behest of police officials. Raju had previously approached the courts regarding these allegations, including the Supreme Court, which dismissed his plea for a CBI inquiry into the incident.
In response to the fresh FIR, Sunil Kumar expressed confusion over how charges could be reinstated after being dismissed by the Supreme Court following three years of legal proceedings. Former minister Peri Venkataramaiah (Nani) criticized Raju, suggesting the case lacked legal merit and highlighting previous court actions that found no evidence of injury.
The situation remains contentious, with ongoing legal and political ramifications surrounding the allegations and counter-allegations.
