The villagers of Talari Cheruvu are following a strange custom in Anantapur district. On the day before the full moon of the Magha month , the whole village is emptied. This strange-sounding tradition has been going on for decades.

 Locking the house..packing the pettabeda and leaving the village..turning off the lights in the house..is part of this ritual. This ritual is being followed in the name of Aggipadu. All this is for the good of the village, the villagers of Talari Cheruvu say. Villagers say that there is a lot of history behind the burning ritual.

Earlier, Talaricheruvu village was looted by a Brahmin and all the villagers were killed, and the children born in the village were dying. An astrologer said that children were dying because of the murder of a Brahmin. As a solution, they said to follow the Aggipadu ritual. The villagers say that they have been continuing this custom since then. The villagers of Talari Cheruvu are continuing the tradition of not lighting the fire and lights.

అనంతపురం జిల్లాలో వింత ఆచారం పాటిస్తున్నారు తలారి చెరువు గ్రామస్థులు. మాఘ మాసం పౌర్ణమికి ముందు రోజు ఊరు ఊరంతా ఖాళీ అవుతుంది. వినడానికి వింతగా ఉన్న ఈ సంప్రదాయం దశాబ్దాలుగా కొనసాగుతూ వస్తోంది.

 ఇంటికి తాళం వేయడం.. పెట్టాబేడా సర్దుకుని ఊరొదిలి వెళ్లిపోవడం.. నట్టింట్లో లైట్లు ఆఫ్‌ చేయడం.. ఈ ఆచారంలో భాగం. అగ్గిపాడు పేరుతో ఈ ఆచారాన్ని పాటిస్తూ వస్తున్నారు. ఇదంతా ఎందుకంటే పల్లె మేలు కోసం.. జనం బాగు కోసమే అంటున్నారు తలారి చెరువు గ్రామస్థులు. అగ్గిపాడు ఆచారం వెనుక ఎంతో చరిత్ర ఉందంటున్నారు గ్రామస్తులు.

పూర్వం తలారిచెరువు గ్రామాన్ని ఓ బ్రాహ్మణుడు దోచుకోవడంతో గ్రామస్తులంతా కలిసి చంపడంతో, ఊళ్లో పుట్టిన పిల్లలు చనిపోతూ వచ్చారట. బ్రాహ్మణుడిని హత్య చేయడం వల్లే పిల్లలు చనిపోతున్నారని చెప్పిన ఓ జ్యోతిష్యుడు. పరిష్కార మార్గంగా అగ్గిపాడు ఆచారం పాటించాలని చెప్పారట.
 
అప్పట్నుంచి ఈ ఆచారం కొనసాగిస్తూ వస్తున్నామంటున్నారు గ్రామస్తులు. మొత్తానికి అగ్గి, లైట్లు వెలిగించకుండా అనాదిగా వస్తున్న ఆచారాన్ని కొనసాగిస్తూ వస్తున్నారు తలారి చెరువు గ్రామస్థులు.
