Vijayawada Metro Rail Project: Land Acquisition Begins for Two Corridors
The dream of Vijayawada residents to have a metro rail is soon becoming a reality. The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) has identified 91 acres of land in NTR and Krishna districts for metro corridor construction. APMRC recently submitted its proposals to NTR District Collector G. Lakshmi Sha for approval.
Initially, plans were made for four metro corridors, but the focus is now on constructing two key corridors—one from Gannavaram and another from Penamaluru. The land acquisition process will follow the earlier proposed route alignment, ensuring both corridors meet at PNBS (Pandit Nehru Bus Station) in Vijayawada.
Corridor 1: Gannavaram to PNBS (26 km Route)
The first corridor will span 26 km, starting from PNBS, passing through Vijayawada Railway Station, and moving along Eluru Road. It will merge onto the national highway at Ramavarappadu and continue towards Gannavaram. The metro stations along this route include:
- Yoga Ashram, Airport, Gudavalli, Chaitanya College, Nidamanuru, MBT Center, Prasadampadu, Ramavarappadu Junction
- It will then turn onto Eluru Road and pass through Gunadala, Padavalarevu, Machavaram Down, Seetharampuram Signal, Besant Road Railway Station, before reaching PNBS.
Corridor 2: Penamaluru to PNBS (12.5 km Route)
The second corridor, spanning 12.5 km, will begin from PNBS and travel via Bandar Road, covering the following stations:
- Victoria Museum, Indira Gandhi Stadium, Benz Circle, Autonagar, Ashokanagar, Krishnanagar, Kanuru Center, Tadigadapa, Poranki
- The route will then extend to Penamaluru, providing better connectivity for residents.
With land acquisition now in progress, the Vijayawada Metro Rail project is moving closer to becoming a reality. Stay tuned for more updates on its development!
