Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his family meet Prime Minister Modi

New Delhi, Feb 18: Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, along with his family, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. The two leaders shared a delightful conversation on various topics.

PM Modi praised Sunak, calling him a great friend of India, and highlighted his enthusiasm for strengthening the India-UK relationship.

On Twitter (now X), PM Modi wrote, “It was a delight to meet former UK PM, Mr. Rishi Sunak and his family! We had a wonderful conversation on many subjects. Mr. Sunak is a great friend of India and is passionate about even stronger India-UK ties.”

Earlier in the day, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman also met Rishi Sunak. They discussed potential new avenues to enhance market-based financial ties and promote economic growth.

The Finance Minister emphasized leveraging the Commonwealth to bring mutual interests to the G7 agenda for the benefit of the Global South.

Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty and daughters Krishna and Anoushka, also visited Parliament House on Tuesday. They were joined by Sudha Murthy, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

The Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh, welcomed the Sunak family, while P.C. Mody, Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, was also present.

During their visit, the Sunak family explored the grandeur of the Parliament House Complex, visiting significant locations such as the Galleries, Chambers, Constitution Hall, and Samvidhan Sadan.

Rishi Sunak, who is currently in India, also met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday.

“Nice to meet former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Delhi today. Appreciate his constant support for strengthening India-UK relations,” EAM Jaishankar shared on Twitter.

Rishi Sunak, born to Indian parents in Southampton with roots in Punjab, became the UK Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024, making him the first person of Indian origin to hold the position.

Sunak, the British Indian leader, described India as an “indispensable partner” for the UK in all areas of bilateral cooperation.

This visit is part of Sunak's ongoing engagements in India. Just a few days earlier, on February 15, 2025, he visited the Taj Mahal with his family.
