New Delhi, March 27: The Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while speaking in the House, clarified that India welcomes visitors for tourism, education, healthcare, and business. However, strict action will be taken against anyone who poses a threat to the country’s security.
“The country is not a ‘Dharamshala’ (shelter home). We will not allow those who threaten our security to enter. But anyone who wants to contribute to the nation’s progress is always welcome,” said Amit Shah.
The new Immigration Bill aims to strengthen national security, boost India’s economy, and support important sectors like healthcare and education. Amit Shah also highlighted that the Bill will help the government get real-time information about every foreigner visiting India.
During his speech, the Home Minister addressed the issue of illegal infiltration, especially by Rohingyas from Myanmar and Bangladeshis. He warned that the government would take strict action against anyone who seeks to use India for personal gain and puts the country’s security at risk.
He mentioned that illegal infiltration has increased and could become a danger if not controlled. “We welcome tourists, students, those seeking healthcare, and those doing business. But those who come to harm the country, we will keep a close eye on them and take strong action,” he said.
Amit Shah also raised the issue of delayed border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. He criticized the West Bengal government for not acting decisively to stop illegal infiltration, particularly the incomplete 450 km of fencing due to the state not providing land for the project.
He said that ruling party workers (Trinamool Congress) disrupt the fencing work with hooliganism and religious slogans.
“The West Bengal government has shown mercy to infiltrators, and the fencing work of 450 km has been delayed,” he added.
Amit Shah also mentioned that this delay allowed infiltration from Bangladesh, leading to the spread of fake Aadhaar cards in the South 24 Parganas area.
The Home Minister assured that the central government would soon take control of the situation in West Bengal, complete the remaining fencing, and prevent further illegal immigration.
