EAST GODAVARI DISTRICT: Seven people were killed when a mini-truck overturned on Wednesday in East Godavari district, according to police reports.
The accident happened in the Chilaka Pakala area of Chinnaigudem in Devarapalli mandal. The truck, which was carrying cashew nuts from Borrampalem in T Narasapuram Mandal to Tadimalla in Nidadavolu Mandal, lost control and overturned.
East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Narasimha Kishore confirmed the deaths and noted that one survivor, who is in stable condition, was rescued from the scene. The victims suffocated after being trapped under sacks of cashew nuts.
Local residents and police worked together to remove the bodies, which have been sent to Kovvuru Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
