VIJAYAWADA: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has filed a writ petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court challenging the reduction in his security cover. The petition is expected to be heard on Wednesday.
Reddy contends that the current coalition government’s decision to cut his security—made without notice—poses a serious threat to his safety. He argues that the reduction, which occurred just a month after the general elections on June 4, 2024, is unjustified and breaches principles of natural justice.
In his petition, Reddy requests the restoration of his previous security arrangements, including personal security officers, counter-assault teams, and signal-jammers. Despite retaining the Z+ protection category, the number of security personnel has been drastically reduced, leaving only two officers to guard him at all times. He also highlighted issues with the condition of his bulletproof vehicle and reduced protection compared to what MLAs receive.
Reddy expressed concern over recent security breaches and alleged that the reduction in his protection might be part of a broader intent to endanger him, referencing statements from TDP members about his safety.
