Champions Trophy 2025: India Unveils New Jersey Featuring Pakistan’s Name
On Monday, the Indian cricket team revealed their new jersey for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Captain Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh posed for the cameras while wearing the fresh jerseys. The most striking feature of the new design is the inclusion of Pakistan’s name, which has captured everyone’s attention. The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared photos of players who have won ICC awards, showcasing them in the new jerseys. The jersey prominently displays the words “Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan.”
It is customary to print the host country’s name on the kits of participating teams during the tournament. However, a controversy arose when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initially refused to feature Pakistan’s name on India’s jersey. The BCCI argued that since they are not playing in Pakistan, there was no need to print Pakistan’s name. The issue was eventually resolved after intervention from the ICC. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that they would abide by ICC regulations. This is the first time that India’s jersey has featured Pakistan’s name, despite no such instances occurring during the 2023 Asia Cup held in Pakistan.
In related news, the ICC recently awarded Rohit Sharma as the "ODI Team of the Year," while Jadeja received the "Test Team of the Year" honor. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh were named to the "ICC T20 Team of the Year." Additionally, Arshdeep Singh received the prestigious "T20 Cricketer of the Year" and "Men's T20 Player of the Year" awards. The India-Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy is set to take place on February 23.
