Samantha Ruth Prabhu Highlights the Silence and Stigma Around Menstruation

Mumbai, April 16: Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has spoken candidly about menstruation, highlighting how the subject is still surrounded by silence and stigma. In an interaction with IANS, she expressed the need for more open conversations around periods.

“As women, we’ve come so far, yet conversations around periods are still met with silence, whispers, and shame,” Samantha said, emphasizing that menstruation continues to be treated as a taboo in society.

In a recent episode of her podcast Take20, Samantha had a heartfelt conversation with nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary. The duo discussed menstrual health, cycle syncing, endometriosis, and the many daily struggles women face — struggles that often go unacknowledged.

“Speaking with Rashi reminded me how important it is to break these taboos and outdated beliefs. Our cycles are powerful and life-affirming — nothing to be ashamed of or brushed aside,” Samantha added.

She also opened up about her personal journey — understanding her body, dealing with endometriosis, and the emotional and physical challenges of being in the spotlight while managing such a condition.

“The menstrual cycle affects our mind and body in profound ways, and it's something we need to keep learning about year after year. Rashi brought so much clarity to the topic. I’m grateful we had such a meaningful conversation to help embrace and understand this life force we’re gifted with as women,” she shared.

On the professional front, Samantha recently made her debut as a producer with the film Subham, under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures, in collaboration with Kanakavalli Talkies. The teaser of the film was released on April 7.

“Presenting to you our little labor of love. A small team with big dreams! We’re incredibly grateful for this journey and what we’ve created together. We hope you enjoy the film, and may this be the start of something truly special,” she wrote.

Subham is penned by Vasanth Mariganti and directed by Praveen Kandregula, the duo who previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed Cinema Bandi.
