Rohit Sharma Says He’s Not Retiring from ODIs After CT 2025 Triumph

Dubai, March 10: India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has confirmed that he is not planning to retire from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after India’s four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy final on Sunday. Rohit, the opener, scored 76 runs, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes, setting the pace for India’s chase in tough Dubai conditions.

"I am not going to retire from this format," Rohit said in the post-match press conference. "Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (No future plan, whatever is happening will continue)," he added.

At 37 years old, Rohit had previously announced he would retire from T20Is after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory. Many expected him to retire from all white-ball cricket, especially with the 2027 ODI World Cup coming up in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Rohit made his ODI debut against Ireland on June 23, 2007, and has played 273 ODIs, scoring 11,168 runs.

He also praised the senior players in the Indian team, saying their passion for the game motivates the younger players to perform well.

“There is a lot of hunger even in players who have played a lot of cricket, and it rubs off on the younger players. We have 5-6 players who are real stalwarts, and it makes the job easier for all of us,” Rohit said.

Rohit also praised his fellow Mumbaikar, Shreyas Iyer, who ended the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer, with 241 runs in five matches, just behind New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra.

"Shreyas Iyer was the silent hero. He was crucial in the middle order. Even when I got out today, Shreyas had a key partnership with Axar," said Rohit.
