BYD: The Chinese Electric Car Company That Overtook Tesla

Chinese car manufacturer BYD recorded significant revenue last year. According to details revealed through stock filings, BYD registered a revenue of 777.1 billion yuan (approximately ₹9.15 lakh crore) in 2024, surpassing Tesla, which had a revenue of ₹8.30 lakh crore. Additionally, the company is expanding its presence in international markets.

BYD has emerged as a leader in China's electric vehicle market, achieving 29% growth compared to 2023. This revenue is higher than Bloomberg's estimated 766 billion yuan. BYD’s net profit reached a record 40.3 billion yuan, marking a 34% increase from 2023.

Recently, BYD introduced a new battery technology that allows a vehicle to travel 470 kilometers with just five minutes of charging. Following this announcement, the company’s stock prices skyrocketed. BYD also stated that its latest battery and charging system supports 1,000kW charging capacity, which is faster than Tesla’s Superchargers, which currently provide 500kW charging speeds.
