We Expect Gods to Be Kept Out of Politics Supreme Court Seeks Evidence in Tirupati Ghee Contamination Case

The Supreme Court on Monday questioned Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's public claim that animal fat was allegedly used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan pointed out that the laboratory report, which tested rejected ghee, was unclear, and questioned why the chief minister made the allegation publicly before an official investigation. The court observed, “We expect Gods to be kept away from politics,” as the issue touches on the sentiments of millions.
The court also noted that Naidu’s public statement on September 18 preceded the FIR and the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on September 26, which was tasked with probing the matter. The bench raised concerns over making such claims publicly while the investigation was still ongoing.
The Supreme Court has asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to consider whether the state-appointed SIT should continue its investigation or if an independent agency should take over. The next hearing is scheduled for October 3.
Meanwhile, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) executive officer has denied that adulterated ghee was ever used in the preparation of the sacred laddus. Naidu’s allegations have triggered a significant political controversy, with the ruling YSR Congress Party accusing him of using the issue for political gains.
