Telangana Prepares for Heavy Rainfall as Orange Alert Issued

HYDERABAD: Telangana is bracing for a period of intense rainfall over the next two days, with conditions expected to worsen within the next 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the state, forecasting very heavy rainfall for the coming three days.
The expected heavy rains are linked to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, which is impacting north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha. According to IMD officials, "Telangana will experience continuous rainfall over the next two days. Today's weather will include scattered, heavy, and isolated extremely heavy rains, which are expected to intensify to extremely heavy rains by tomorrow. Southern Telangana will see persistent heavy rains on Saturday, while Central and North Telangana will experience intense rainfall starting Saturday night."
On Saturday, light to moderate rains and thundershowers were observed across many districts, with particularly heavy rainfall in Nagarkurnool, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Yadadri Bhuvangiri. Hyderabad also experienced rainfall from early morning.
The IMD has issued impact-based warnings, highlighting potential issues such as water accumulation on roads and low-lying areas, traffic congestion, wet and slippery roads, and risks of falling trees and electric poles. There may also be temporary disruptions to electricity and water services, as well as issues with drainage systems.
