Taliban succumb to Aussie threats .. Green signal for women's cricket ..?

The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) has reacted to Cricket Australia's warning that the Taliban's reluctance to allow Afghan women to play cricket will cancel a Test match against the men's team in November. Azizullah Fazli, chairman of the country's cricket board, said Afghan women still had the opportunity to play cricket. He said he would let them know soon how the process would take place and that Afghani women would definitely hear the good news. Fazli's comments came just days after Taliban Cultural Commission Deputy Head Ahmadullah Wasik announced that Afghan women should not participate in any sport, including cricket, and that Afghan women should not be involved in sports.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) last Thursday called on the Taliban government not to abolish women's cricket. If the Taliban want to weaken women's cricket, they have threatened to cancel the historic Test match against their team on November 27. "We want women's cricket to thrive around the world and we will always support women's cricket," she said. Aussie Test captain Tim Paine also reacted strongly.

He demanded that the ICC exclude the country from the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup if the Taliban weaken women's cricket. However, the Afghan Cricket Board has urged the ICC not to punish the men's team based on the Taliban's statement. However, since the Taliban's occupation of Afghanistan, there has been no control over the monarchy. The Taliban are calling for women's rights in the name of strict Sharia law. It was during this period that women's cricket was banned.
