Men's ODI World Cup: Ian Healy Expresses His Confusion About the Australian Team

Despite Australia securing a three-wicket victory over Afghanistan and securing their spot in the semifinals, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter Ian Healy still holds reservations about Pat Cummins & Co. He wonders if they will hit their peak during the crucial stage of the competition.

In their run-chase of 292 at the Wankhede Stadium, Australia found themselves at a precarious 91/7 when Glenn Maxwell played an incredible knock of 201 not out from 128 balls. His partnership with captain Pat Cummins, which yielded 202 runs, propelled them to their sixth consecutive win and a place in the knockout stage.

"I just can't quite figure out this Australian side. They've been getting the job done and have remained undefeated since their initial two losses. However, their victories have not been entirely convincing. Can they click and bring everything together? That's the question," Healy expressed on SEN Radio.

Afghanistan's opener, Ibrahim Zadran, marked the occasion with the team's first-ever World Cup century as they posted 291/5 after opting to bat first. Healy raised doubts about Afghanistan's decision to bat first at the toss.

"Who would have thought that Afghanistan would come so close? They batted exceptionally well, and their bowling was outstanding, especially at the start of the innings."

"I just felt they made the wrong call at the toss. Why would you choose to bat first? It seemed to be working until Glenn Maxwell turned the game in Australia's favor. You don't want to bowl when there's dew," he added.

Afghanistan's next match is against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday, while Australia is scheduled to face Bangladesh in Pune on Saturday.
