"Mad Square" Movie Review: A Fun Time-Pass Entertainer
"Mad Square" is the sequel to the successful and hilarious film "Mad." With the buzz generated from Part 1 and the exciting teaser and trailer, expectations were high for this film. Does "Mad Square" live up to these expectations? Let’s find out.
Story:
Ladoo (Vishnu) plans to secretly get married without telling his friends. However, his friends, Damodhar (Sangeeth Shobhan), Ashok Kumar (Narne Nithin), and Manoj (Ram Nithin), find out and rush to the wedding. Just when everything is set, the bride runs away with another man, stopping the wedding. To cheer Ladoo up, his friends plan a trip to Goa. During the trip, they accidentally come into possession of a stolen locket, getting into trouble. Meanwhile, Max (Sunil) and Shubhalekha Sudhakar are on the hunt for them. How do they handle the situation? That’s the plot of "Mad Square."
Analysis:
As promised by the makers, "Mad Square" doesn’t focus on logic; it’s all about fun and entertainment. The wedding episodes, especially Ladoo’s marriage drama, bring plenty of laughs. While some parts may seem boring or stretched out, the subsequent hilarious moments make up for it. The film’s target audience is the youth, and the scenes designed for them are quite entertaining.
The first half of the movie revolves around Ladoo’s wedding. The comedy surrounding the wedding is well done. The episode where the bride runs away and the chaotic scenes that follow, featuring Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, and Ram Nithin, provide great humor. Comedians Sunil and Sathya Rajesh play their roles with confusion-based comedy that keeps the audience laughing.
However, the lack of the college environment and the fun that was present in "Mad" feels like a drawback in this part. Also, the absence of female leads paired with the main characters is noticeable. While the first half is filled with fun, the second half goes beyond expectations, providing even more entertainment. The music by Bheems adds energy, and songs like the wedding track and Swathi Reddy’s song fill the theater with excitement. The film’s runtime of just 2 hours and 7 minutes keeps the audience engaged without losing interest.
Actor Performances:
Narne Nithin, Ram Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, and Vishnu bring plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the screen, which is a major plus for the film. Their performances elevate the director’s writing, making the scenes even funnier. There’s also noticeable improvement in their energy, maturity, dialogue delivery, and diction compared to their previous works. Sunil impressed in the role of a ‘bhai’ after his success in "Pushpa."
Priyanka Juwalker as Laila and Sathya Rajesh as the police officer did their parts well. Murali Krishna Goud, who played Ladoo’s father, brought in lots of laughs. The music by Bheems added to the film's overall fun. Director Kalyan Shankar did an excellent job of delivering a fun film with diverse characters, without extending the film unnecessarily.
Before starting "Mad Square," the director recapped key moments from "Mad," which helped the audience easily connect with the story.
Verdict:
If you’re looking for a fun movie without worrying about logic, "Mad Square" will entertain you fully. It’s a perfect time-pass entertainer for families to enjoy over the weekend. The movie also has good commercial potential.
