Visakhapatnam: Heavy rainfall over the weekend has caused substantial damage to infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh's north coastal districts, with Alluri Sitarama Raju district being particularly hard-hit. Roads and bridges have been washed away, isolating several interior villages.
On Sunday night, severe landslides occurred in Chatrapalli village, Galikonda panchayat, within Alluri Sitarama Raju district. Villagers released a video requesting urgent intervention from authorities, reporting that two to three individuals, including a young girl, are missing. Four others were rescued by locals.
With communication networks down due to the adverse weather, villagers are calling for immediate help to locate the missing persons and begin rescue operations.
From 8:30 a.m. on September 8 to 8:30 a.m. on September 9, Alluri Sitarama Raju district recorded 81.53 mm of rainfall. Although the rain has ceased in Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas, many roads and bridges remain submerged in Alluri Sitarama Raju and Vizianagaram districts.
