Vijayawada: The upcoming first session of the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly, set to begin on Monday, is expected to be contentious as the YSRC plans to highlight issues related to law and order in the state.
Governor S Abdul Nazeer will kick off the session with an address to the joint session of the Assembly and the Council at 10 am. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC), including Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and YSRC president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, will determine the number of working days for the House.
Sources within the YSRC indicate that their 11 MLAs and 30 MLCs will attend the joint session and may disrupt proceedings to draw attention to alleged attacks on YSRC cadre, leaders, and properties by the ruling TDP.
Recently, Jagan announced plans to raise concerns about the "deteriorating law and order in the State" both in the Assembly and during a peaceful protest in New Delhi on Wednesday. Despite being outnumbered by the treasury benches, the YSRC is hopeful of support from its MLCs.
Another anticipated issue is the recognition of Jagan as Leader of the Opposition (LoP). The YSRC, the sole non-NDA entity in the Assembly, has requested LoP status for its leader. However, the TDP contends that the YSRC lacks the requisite 19 legislators for LoP status. Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanapatrudu will decide on this matter.
During the session, the government plans to release three white papers on law and order, excise, and state finances. The session is expected to span five days, with indications that the TDP-led NDA government may introduce an Ordinance to extend the vote-on-account Budget for another three months rather than table the Budget itself.
