For the purpose of strengthening the deaths of students in higher educational institutions, the Central Education Department has taken initiatives. In engineering, medical, and other advanced educational institutions, a special focus is placed on the mental support of students. This includes understanding the methods of education, the environment, problems faced, and the approach to addressing them, especially for new students entering colleges.

 The Education Department has established specialized counseling centers to provide insight into the methods of education, environment, problems faced, and how to overcome them. This initiative has been extended to all IITs, NITs, IIMs, central universities, AIIMS, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the country.

Between 2018 and 2022, instances of student suicides have come to light in those institutions. The central investigation revealed factors that contributed to this tragic phenomenon. In the past five years, there have been 32 student suicides in IITs, 21 in NITs, 20 in Central Universities, and 11 in IIMs. Students who were unable to secure seats after national-level competitions or entrance exams faced intense mental pressure, leading to severe decisions like depression and even suicide.

Experts assert that quality education should be imparted until the intermediate level in every state. Coaching centers for exams like JEE Mains, Advanced, and NEET are also adopting unique teaching methods to ease the pressure. However, the same approach is lacking after entering engineering programs, which is causing issues. Students specializing in subjects like mathematics and physics are struggling. Those who enter these coaching programs are adapting well to these subjects, addressing the challenge.

It's crucial to address the mental health of students who have adopted these coaching methods for these subjects.
