HYDERABAD: The state government has proposed a significant budget of ₹4,206 crore for the Transport department, a substantial increase from the ₹1,923 crore allocated for 2023–24.
Among this budget, ₹3,082.53 crore is designated for the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to cover the expenses of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free travel for women across the state. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reported that ₹1,723 crore has already been reimbursed to the RTC for this initiative.
Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka praised the Mahalakshmi scheme, highlighting its positive impact. "Women in the state have traveled 68.60 crore kilometers for free and saved ₹2,351 crore. They are using this benefit to visit tourist spots, temples, and family, which also contributes to the state’s economy," he said.
Additionally, ₹11.50 crore has been allocated for road safety awareness programs and related advertising efforts.
