HYDERABAD:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched the second phase of the crop loan waiver program from the Assembly premises on Tuesday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring that no farmer faces financial hardship.
In this phase, the state government released Rs 6,190.02 crore to waive loans up to Rs 1.5 lakh, benefiting 5.45 lakh farmer families with 6.41 lakh loan accounts.
Reflecting on India's independence achieved in August, the chief minister noted that farmers in Telangana are now free from debt in the same month. He highlighted that July and August will be remembered as pivotal months due to the waiver of farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh.
Revanth reaffirmed the government’s dedication to farmer welfare, stating that Rs 12,000 crore in loans were waived in just 12 days. “The total allocation of Rs 31,000 crore for loan waivers has set a new record in the country’s history,” he added.
Addressing the issue of corporate loan evasion, Revanth pointed out that some companies had avoided repaying Rs 14 lakh crore in loans over the past decade, while farmers struggle with poor yields and low prices. He criticized the previous BRS government for not effectively implementing the farm loan waiver, accusing them of leaving Rs 7,000 crore in unpaid loans despite promising to waive up to Rs 1 lakh in loans. He also highlighted that the previous government left the state with significant debts, which the current Congress administration is working to address.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao, and other ministers and MLAs were present and distributed cheques to farmers.
With the release of Rs 6,190 crore on Tuesday, the government has now waived Rs 12,000 crore in loans within just 12 days.
