HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued a strong warning against attacks on Congress workers, indirectly addressing recent tensions involving MLAs Arekapudi Gandhi and Padi Kaushik Reddy. Speaking on Sunday, Revanth questioned why BRS leaders provoked the situation if they now claim to have been assaulted. “They said they would come to our home, but our people went to theirs. Now they are claiming they have been beaten. Why provoke us in the first place?” he asked.
Revanth's remarks came during a ceremony where he transferred leadership of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to the newly appointed president, Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud. The event was attended by senior Congress leaders, ministers, and legislators.
Revanth expressed confidence in the Congress’s prospects, noting the trend of ruling parties securing two consecutive terms and predicting that the Congress would remain in power for a decade. He urged party members to aim for victory in all 17 Telangana Lok Sabha seats in the 2029 elections. “Winning the previous [Assembly] elections was like a semi-final. The real victory will come when we defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2029 and make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister,” Revanth declared.
He echoed sentiments from former TPCC president and current Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who had called on party members to work diligently towards making Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister in 2029.
Lauding Mahesh as a dedicated and soft-spoken leader, Revanth promised his support to the new TPCC chief and mentioned that he had recommended the appointment of leaders committed to the party’s affairs.
Revanth and Mahesh vowed to collaborate in securing Congress victories in the upcoming local body elections.
In his address, Mahesh emphasized the importance of party leadership being accessible to the public. He urged Revanth to visit Gandhi Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters, at least twice a month to address public grievances. He also proposed a rotational schedule for ministers to visit Gandhi Bhavan twice a week — on Wednesdays and Fridays — for at least three hours to handle public concerns. He stressed that Gandhi Bhavan should remain the sole power center, aside from Rahul Gandhi.
“The party is supreme. There is no power without the party. I urge the ministers to ensure that two of them are available at Gandhi Bhavan to address public grievances,” Mahesh stated.
Meanwhile, Gandhi Bhavan was abuzz with celebration as hundreds of party workers gathered to mark the occasion.
