HYDERABAD: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has raised serious allegations of "corruption" in the tender process for the AMRUT scheme in Telangana.
On Friday, Rama Rao wrote to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar and Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the awarding of contracts under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. He claims these contracts have been unfairly awarded to companies linked to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s family.
Rama Rao alleged that contracts worth hundreds of crores were given to companies associated with the chief minister’s brother-in-law, Srujan Reddy, despite their lack of eligibility. He accused the state government of deliberately withholding information about tenders awarded in the past nine months and demanded the immediate release of all relevant details.
He urged the Union government to intervene and investigate every tender awarded under the AMRUT scheme in Telangana during this period, and called for the cancellation of any tenders that violate regulations.
Despite repeated demands from the Opposition for clarification on these issues, Rama Rao criticized the state government for its silence. He claimed that the Municipal department and related tendering websites have been manipulated to hide this information from the public and insisted that Union ministers take swift action to make all tender-related documents public.
Panel Formed
In a separate initiative, Rama Rao established a BRS fact-finding committee to investigate the recent deaths of women and children at Gandhi Hospital. The committee, comprising former health minister T Rajaiah, former MLA M Anand, and MLA K Sanjay, will visit Gandhi and other hospitals in the state to gather information and submit a report to the government.
