HYDERABAD: Apollo Hospitals successfully performed advanced mechanical thrombectomy on four stroke patients within a 24-hour period.
Among the patients, three were over the age of 75. The procedures were conducted by a team of experts, including interventional radiologist Dr. Suresh Giragani, neurologist Dr. Sudhir, and specialized nursing staff.
Previously, thrombectomy treatment was effective only if administered within four and a half hours of a stroke, with a success rate of 30-40%. However, mechanical thrombectomy can now be performed up to 24 hours after a stroke, offering significant advantages in removing large clots and restoring blood flow.
