Telangana Tunnel Accident: Rescue Operation Continues, Officials Deny Reports of Bodies Found

Rescue Efforts Ongoing in Nagarkurnool Tunnel Collapse

Hyderabad, Feb 28: The rescue operation to save eight trapped workers inside a collapsed tunnel in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district is still in progress. District Collector Badavath Santosh denied media reports claiming that dead bodies were found. He urged news channels to avoid spreading unverified information, as it may cause unnecessary panic.

Officials are using advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology to scan the tunnel. While certain points were identified, the Collector stated that these could be metal or other objects. He assured that findings would be shared with the media as the operation progresses. Meanwhile, desilting and machine cutting are being carried out to speed up the rescue process.

Advanced Equipment and Teams Working to Speed Up Rescue

Authorities have deployed high-tech equipment, including plasma gas cutters, excavators, and conveyor belts, to remove debris and pump out water from the accident site. Special cameras and sensors are being used to monitor tunnel conditions. Several rescue teams, including the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Singareni Mines Rescue, and Fire Services, are working together.

A high-level team, including the District Collector, police officials, irrigation officers, and representatives from various rescue agencies, is closely monitoring the operations. Medical teams are also on standby, ensuring oxygen supply and immediate medical care.

Rescue Operation Enters Seventh Day

The tunnel collapse occurred on February 22 at the 14th km mark inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel. Two workers were injured, and eight others, including engineers and machine operators from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, remain trapped. The massive rescue effort, involving 12 different agencies, has now entered its seventh day, with teams working tirelessly to save those inside.
