KADAPA: A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday when an 11-year-old Class V student died from electrocution, and his classmate sustained severe burns after accidentally coming into contact with a live wire lying on Bellam Mandi Street in Kadapa.
The deceased has been identified as Tanjuman Rahiman, and the injured student is Shaik Adnan, both 11 years old and students at Vidyasagar High School. The incident happened as the children were cycling to school after lunch. They fell off their bicycle near Titanic Building and touched a hanging dish wire. Rahiman was electrocuted, while Adnan was rushed to a local government hospital with serious injuries.
The accident triggered protests from parents and locals who blamed the electricity department for negligence. In response, Kadapa MLA R. Madhavi Reddy visited the scene and the hospital.
Electricity Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar announced a ₹5 lakh compensation for Rahiman’s family and free medical treatment for Adnan. He also held an emergency review meeting with CMDs to address the series of electrical accidents and ordered immediate action to repair the hazardous wires. IT Minister N. Lokesh expressed his condolences and assured government support for the affected families.
