Telangana Munneru River Causes Widespread Flooding and Hardship for Victims

KHAMMAM: The victims of the Munneru floods are still grappling with their devastating losses, left to fend for themselves as they await assistance from the state government.
A 56-year-old sweeper, the sole breadwinner for her eight-member family including her grandchildren, is overwhelmed with grief. “My house has collapsed, and the compound wall has been washed away. We have lost everything,” she said, recounting how the floods destroyed her hard-earned possessions, including a TV, a refrigerator, and a washing machine, as well as five quintals of rice. Despite her dire situation, she has yet to receive any government aid.
Sixty-year-old K. Ranganayakamma from Venkateswara Colony is at a loss. “I don’t know how to move forward. My house is damaged, and all my household items have been swept away,” she lamented.
A resident of Sundaraiah Nagar shared a similar plight, saying, “I purchased a TV and a refrigerator on installment, but now they are gone. All that’s left are the unpaid installments.”
N. Rama Rao from Bokkalagadda expressed despair, stating, “We were poor before, but now the floods have left us destitute. If the government does not intervene, I see no option but to end my life.”
Advocate K. Srinivas emphasized the urgency of government intervention. “While distributing rice and clothes is a start, it’s not enough. The state government must provide substantial support to help these victims rebuild their lives and recover from this disaster,” he asserted.
