పొట్టా ముత్తయ్య, పుదువు కనకయ్య మంచి స్నేహితులు. చిన్న చిన్న ఉద్యోగాలకే కుటుంబ పోషణ కష్టమవుతోంది. దాంతో ఇద్దరూ స్థిరమైన ఆదాయానికి మార్గం చూపాలని ఊరి పెద్ద ఈశ్వరయ్య వద్దకు వెళ్లారు. మీరిద్దరూ మంచి స్నేహితులు కదా! ఏదైనా వ్యాపారం చేయండి. పెట్టుబడికి కావాలంటే అప్పు ఇస్తానని ఈశ్వరయ్య చెప్పాడు.

ఒకరోజు ముత్తయ్య దుకాణంలో లేని సమయం చూసి చంద్రయ్య కనకయ్యతో, “రోజంతా నిలబడి పొట్లాలు కట్టాలి, అయితే ముత్తయ్య కూర్చుని డబ్బులు తీసుకుంటాడు” అన్నాడు. మరుసటి రోజు నుంచి కనకయ్య ముత్తయ్యతో గొడవపడి గల్లపేటలో కూర్చున్నాడు. దురదృష్టవశాత్తు ముత్తయ్య అల్మారా(స్వయం)లో సరుకులు పడిపోవడంతో హడావుడిగా డబ్బులు తీసుకుని లెక్క తప్పాడు.

  దీంతో తమ దుకాణానికి వచ్చే వారి సంఖ్య తగ్గిపోయింది. కొద్ది రోజులుగా దుకాణం మూతపడే పరిస్థితి నెలకొంది. ఈ విషయం తెలుసుకున్న ఈశ్వరయ్య ఇద్దరు స్నేహితులకు ఫోన్ చేశాడు. మీ మధ్య విభేదాలకు కారణం ఏంటని ప్రశ్నించారు. కనకయ్యకి, చంద్రయ్య మాటలు చెప్పాడు.
