Illegal Migrants: Number of Indians Deported from the U.S. So Far!

The United States is deporting illegal migrants living in the country without proper documentation. Recently, 104 Indian nationals were deported, and the flight carrying them landed in Amritsar, Punjab, on Wednesday.

India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, shared key details regarding deportations in the Rajya Sabha. He revealed that since 2009, the U.S. has deported 15,668 Indian illegal migrants. Opposition parties expressed concern over this issue, but Jaishankar clarified that deportations have been happening for years and are not a new development.

Indian Deportation Numbers Over the Years

According to available data, the yearly deportation numbers of Indian migrants from the U.S. are:

  • 2009 – 734 people
  • 2010 – 799 people
  • 2011 – 597 people
  • 2012 – 530 people
  • 2013 – 515 people
  • 2014 – 591 people (NDA came to power)
  • 2015 – 708 people
  • 2016 – 1,303 people
  • 2017 – 1,024 people
  • 2018 – 1,180 people
  • 2019Highest so far – 2,042 people
  • 2020 – 1,889 people
  • 2021 – 805 people
  • 2022 – 862 people
  • 2023 – 617 people
  • 2024 (so far) – 1,368 people, including the latest 104 deportations

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has confirmed that no women or children were among the deported individuals.
