BCCI Affirms Compliance with ICC Uniform Rules Amid Alleged Dispute Over 'Pakistan' on Kits
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that it will adhere to all uniform-related rules ahead of the Champions Trophy, following reports that the International Cricket Council (ICC) warned the board about its supposed reluctance to have "Pakistan" printed on Team India’s kits in connection with the tournament logo.
The Champions Trophy is set to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
“We will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during the Champions Trophy,” stated Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, as quoted by the Press Trust of India.
Earlier today, state broadcaster PTV reported that, according to Indian news outlet NDTV, the ICC had sent a "firm message" to the BCCI regarding their alleged hesitation to include "Pakistan" on the kits.
In a similar context, Pakistan’s team, often referred to as the "Green Shirts," will not travel to India for future ICC events in which their matches against India will be played at neutral venues.
Last week, there were concerns about whether India’s cricket team, including captain Rohit Sharma, would attend the Champions Trophy opening ceremony in Pakistan.
On Monday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sought to ease any concerns about the readiness of venues for this year’s tournament, hosting media representatives for a tour of the stadiums in Lahore and Karachi.
