Florida Governor DeSantis: Both Trump and Biden are Too Advanced in Age for the Presidency

Miami, November 20: Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida and a potential Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, expressed his view that both the current US President, Joe Biden, and former President Donald Trump are too advanced in age to seek another term in the White House.

Upon assuming office in January 2021, Biden, now 81 years old, became the country's oldest President at the age of 78. In contrast, Trump, who had no prior public office or military background, became President in 2017 at the age of 71.

During an interview with CNN on Sunday, the 45-year-old DeSantis stated that the presidency is not suitable for individuals pushing 80. He emphasized that this aspect has been evident in the case of Joe Biden, stating, "Father Time is undefeated. Donald Trump is not exempt from any of that."

DeSantis, asserting that he is in the "prime of my life," pointed out that Trump would be older than Biden was at the beginning of his term if he were to take office in 2025.

The topic of age has become a central focus in the 2024 presidential election, with Trump mocking Biden's mental fitness for office. DeSantis's campaign even launched an "accident tracker" for Trump's gaffes, highlighting verbal slip-ups.

Addressing concerns about Trump's mental acuity and his ability to compete against Biden in a general election, DeSantis remarked to CNN, "I wouldn’t be running unless I thought that the Democrats would beat Trump if he were the nominee. You’re gonna see scorched earth... The whole election will end up being a referendum on Donald Trump, and Biden will be able to hang out in the basement, and I think he’ll be able to get away with it again."

DeSantis further affirmed his commitment, stating, "I will serve two terms, deliver big results, and get the country moving again. That’s what Republican voters want to see," during the interview with CNN.

Despite a decline in poll numbers, DeSantis has maintained an active campaign trail presence, appearing at numerous public events with his wife, Casey, and three children, in contrast to Biden and Trump.
