Chennai, March 28: In a thrilling match in IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 50 runs, ending a 17-year losing streak at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The last time RCB won against CSK at Chepauk was in 2008, and since then, they had faced defeat every time they visited.
RCB’s victory was thanks to a solid performance from their bowlers and batsmen. Josh Hazlewood led the charge with the ball, taking key wickets early on. Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar scored a quick half-century, his first as RCB's captain, helping RCB set a competitive total.
Patidar, who had a couple of lucky breaks early in his innings, made the most of them and scored 51 runs off 30 balls. Tim David also played an important role, hitting three sixes in the last over to boost RCB’s total to 196/7.
For CSK, Hazlewood’s early strikes, including the wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad, set the tone. CSK never really recovered, as their middle order crumbled under pressure. Rachin Ravindra fought hard for CSK with 41 runs, while MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 30 runs but couldn’t get CSK closer to the target.
Hazlewood finished with figures of 3/21, and Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone also bowled well, taking two wickets each. Despite a couple of big hits from Dhoni, CSK could only manage 146/8 in 20 overs, handing RCB a memorable win by 50 runs.
